چکیده

Abstract Introduction EEG spectral power in the alpha range is indicative of a wake-like state, with typically high during wakefulness and reduced sleep. We previously reported that single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) activity-regulated cytoskeleton associated protein (ARC) gene modulates non-REM theta power. Here we sought to determine whether ARC genotype also phenotypic differences REM Methods 43 healthy adults (27.6±4.8y; 23 females) participated one two in-laboratory studies. Each participant had 10h baseline sleep opportunity (22:00–08:00), 38h TSD, recovery (22:00–08:00). Sleep periods were recorded polysomnographically visually scored according AASM criteria. Genomic DNA was assayed for c.*742 + 58C>T non-coding SNP, rs35900184. Log-transformed (C3-M3 derivation) over 0.2 Hz frequency bins each four bands – delta (0.8–4.0 Hz), (4.2–8.0 (8.2–12.0 beta (12.2–16.0 Hz) analyzed by band using mixed-effects ANOVA fixed effects genotype, night (baseline, recovery), bin, their interactions. Analyses included study age as covariates random effect subjects on intercept. Results The distribution this sample 28 C/C homozygotes, 10 C/T heterozygotes, 5 T/T homozygotes. There significant interaction (F2,1560=23.80, p< 0.001). Compared sleep, homozygotes 13.0% more post-TSD whereas 1.2% less heterozygotes 3.2% This differential TSD genotypes not seen other bands. Conclusion Our results show mediates response displaying pronounced increase following deprivation. SNP has been schizophrenia, psychiatric disorder known disturbances. As such, ARC-mediated might be marker psychosis-like predisposition. Support (if any) ONR N00014-13-1-0302; NIH R21CA167691; USAMRDC W81XWH-18-1-0100; ARO W911NF2210223

The septum modulates REM sleep-related penile erections in rats

Rapid eye movement sleep in males is characterized by penile erection along with EEG desynchronization, muscle atonia, ponto-geniculo-occipital waves, and rapid eye movements (REM). The central neural mechanisms regulating sleep related erections (SREs) are not known. Recently, the lateral preoptic area has been shown to contribute in sleep-related erectile mechanisms. Selective REM sleep deprivation in humans: effects on sleep and sleep EEG.

To investigate rapid eye movement (REM) sleep regulation, eight healthy young men were deprived of REM sleep for three consecutive nights. In a three-night control sleep deprivation (CD) session 2 wk later, the subjects were repeatedly awakened from non-REM sleep in an attempt to match the awakenings during the REM sleep deprivation (RD) nights. During the RD nights the number of sleep interrup...

Analysis of sleep EEG during rebound sleep after three days REM deprivation

Background Effects of selective rapid eye movement sleep (REMS) deprivation are usually studied with the single platform-onwater method (flower pot). In this protocol, animals are placed on a small platform (SP) surrounded by water, and as muscle atony is typical for REMS, they fall into the water and awaken immediately as they switch to REMS. A large platform (LP) is also used, in order to sep...

Homeostasis of REM sleep after total and selective sleep deprivation in the rat.

During specific rapid eye movement (REM) sleep deprivation its homeostatic regulation is expressed by progressively more frequent attempts to enter REM and by a compensatory rebound after the deprivation ends. The buildup of pressure to enter REM may be hypothesized to depend just on the time elapsed without REM or to be differentially related to non-REM (NREM) and wakefulness. This problem bea...
